"Oh, these vast, calm, measureless mountain days, days in whose light everything seems equally divine, opening a thousand windows to show us God." - John Muir
Beard Butter or Beard Oil?
While beard oil is primarily for your skin and benefits your beard, beard butter is primarily used to condition and style your beard. You can use both, and it's recommended that you do in most cases. But, if you have a shorter beard, you can really use either and achieve many of the same benefits.
John Muir: The Legend Behind our Beard Butter
All of our beard grooming products are associated with a legendary bearded man of history and, naturalist, mountaineer, and author, John Muir, is no exception but he is a bit unique: he was the first manly figure around which our beard products was designed. Muir's love for the out of doors, his inspirational work in preserving our National Parks, and, of course, his beard, captured the essence of what we wanted to create: the best possible beard butter for men who are a bit rustic and yet refined when suits the occasion.
The Scent: Woodsy, Bright, Warm, & Calm
Taking care of your beard should be an experience you look forward to, not a chore. Our beard oil is light, quickly absorbed (never greasy), with a touch of scent that is just right for when your lady is close by.
The character notes in the Muir-inspired beard oil are reminiscent of fir and spruce trees with warm middle notes and a bit of spice.
What Makes Our Beard Butter Better?
As a much requested follow-up to our beard oil, we wanted to create a beard butter that accomplished a few things really well:
- Not be greasy (check!)
- Have a decent hold (keep the stubborn hairs down)
- Condition the beard
- Smell amazing, but not overpowering
Kokum Butter is the Key
While a lot of beard butters use shea as their primary ingredient, we found kokum to be superior in a number of areas: hold, higher melting point, and less grainy to name a few. So, we use that as the main butter, along with shea butter and argan oil to craft a beard butter that holds well, but doesn't feel heavy or greasy.
Each 4oz Jar Contains:
- Kokum Butter
- Shea Butter
- Argan Oil
- Essential Oils
How much beard butter should I use?
For a short to medium beard, we recommend a fingertip's worth. Just get a little bit out and rub it in the palm of your hands, then work it into your beard.
If I use beard oil and beard butter, will the scent be too much?
We typically recommend cutting the beard oil amount in half if also using the beard butter. So if you usually do 6 drops of beard oil, cut it back to 3. Our beard butter has some of the same ingredients as the oil, but will stick to the hairs better. This will also help you avoid a greasy beard.
Will beard butter help my beard grow?
Probably not, but it can make it more full. A conditioned beard has thicker hairs than a dry one. So while beard butter won't plant new follicles for you, it can give the appearance of a healthier, fuller beard.
How long will a jar typically last?
If used every day, a jar will typically last 2-3 months. That's 2-3 months of smelling amazing and looking like a champ. Not a bad investment!
