"It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men." - Frederick Douglass

Beard Butter or Beard Oil?

While beard oil is primarily for your skin and benefits your beard, beard butter is primarily used to condition and style your beard. You can use both, and it's recommended that you do in most cases. But, if you have a shorter beard, you can really use either and achieve many of the same benefits.

Frederick Douglass: The Legend Behind our Beard Oil

Born a slave but becoming a freeman and inspiration to a nation,   Frederick Douglass  epitomized the character of manhood. In   his own words  we read of the hell he and other slaves endured, and yet the great call to liberty and peace for men of all races.

When selecting the characters for our   beard oils  that we hope men learn about and tell their children about, Douglass topped the list.

Read about what makes our beard oil better, here.

The Scent: Earthy, Subtle, & Sweet with a Hint of Spice

Taking care of your beard should be an experience you look forward to, not a chore. Our beard oil is light, quickly absorbed (never greasy), with a touch of scent that is just right for when your lady is close by.

The character notes in the Frederick Douglass-inspired beard oil reminds us of   petrichor (the smell after it rains), a subtle brightness, & warm vanilla-like base notes.

What Makes Our Beard Butter Better?

As a much requested follow-up to our beard oil, we wanted to create a beard butter that accomplished a few things really well:

  • Not be greasy (check!)
  • Have a decent hold (keep the stubborn hairs down)
  • Condition the beard
  • Smell amazing, but not overpowering

Kokum Butter is the Key

While a lot of beard butters use shea as their primary ingredient, we found kokum to be superior in a number of areas: hold, higher melting point, and less grainy to name a few. So, we use that as the main butter, along with shea butter and argan oil to craft a beard butter that holds well, but doesn't feel heavy or greasy.

Each 4oz Jar Contains:

  • Kokum Butter
  • Shea Butter
  • Argan Oil
  • Essential Oils

Common Questions

How much beard butter should I use?

For a short to medium beard, we recommend a fingertip's worth. Just get a little bit out and rub it in the palm of your hands, then work it into your beard.

If I use beard oil and beard butter, will the scent be too much?

We typically recommend cutting the beard oil amount in half if also using the beard butter. So if you usually do 6 drops of beard oil, cut it back to 3. Our beard butter has some of the same ingredients as the oil, but will stick to the hairs better. This will also help you avoid a greasy beard.

Will beard butter help my beard grow?

Probably not, but it can make it more full. A conditioned beard has thicker hairs than a dry one. So while beard butter won't plant new follicles for you, it can give the appearance of a healthier, fuller beard.

How long will a jar typically last?

If used every day, a jar will typically last 2-3 months. That's 2-3 months of smelling amazing and looking like a champ. Not a bad investment!
